Quick Fact About DataAnnotation
Data annotation is the process of labeling data to make it usable for machine learning algorithms. It involves adding metadata or tags to different types of data, such as images, text, audio, or video, to provide context and meaning for training machine learning models.
For example, in image annotation, data annotators might label objects within images with bounding boxes, polygons, or semantic segmentation masks to indicate the presence and location of specific objects like cars, people, or animals. In text annotation, annotators might mark up text for sentiment analysis, named entity recognition, or part-of-speech tagging.
Data annotation is a crucial step in supervised machine learning, as it provides the ground truth labels needed to train and evaluate models accurately. High-quality annotations are essential for building robust and reliable machine learning systems.
