Updates: Uganda National Examinations Board Postpones UCE Transition Examination based On Old Curriculum

Uganda National Examinations Board: Following the Board’s engagement with District Education Officers (DEOs), the Board made further consultations on the modalities for conducting the UCE transition examination under the old curriculum, originally proposed for June/July 2024.

The Minister for Education and Sports has now advised that the period between June and July is too short for the repeaters to prepare and then sit for the examination.

The Minister recognizes that learners who had previously registered and sat under the Universal Secondary Education (USE) schools may not have the resources to pay for the examination and as such, the government should take up that responsibility. Such repeaters should therefore register from the USE school close to them.

Based on this development, the UCE transition examination under the old curriculum will not be conducted in June/July as had been originally envisaged. The sitting Centres will also not be as earlier projected. The affected persons will now be advised to register themselves in the USE schools where they studied from previously, or those convenient to them. The functional/existing examination halls will also register candidates as well as the Private schools that will have repeaters wishing to sit for the examination.

The Board is grateful to all the DEOS and Area Supervisors who did the due diligence to identify and submit to UNEB names of proposed suitable Centres to host the transition examination, as earlier envisioned.Updates: Uganda National Examinations Board Postpones UCE Transition Examination based On Old Curriculum

Timing and Registration for the Transition Examination

The transition examination based on the Old Curriculum will be conducted at the same time as the 2024 UCE examination based on the New Curriculum, from October to November, 2024. The registration process will also run alongside the normal registration for this year. UNEB will communicate the detailed guidelines for registration.
